Nourish, Paint & Flourish

The day will start with exploring the inspiring grounds at Haymans Farm which will then lead on to a drawing and painting workshop of various British birds.

A delicious and nutritious lunch, coffee, tea and snacks will be included.

Who it's for

Anyone interested in working in watercolours and learning several new techniques so that they may achieve varied and desired effects in their work.

Workshop Tutor

Olga Houghton FRSA is a Canadian painter and ceramicist interested in the idea of nostalgia and memory. She graduated with a Fine Art History degree from York University in Toronto and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. Her work is inspired by direct observation, nature, colour, and form, as reflected in her earthen vessels and evocative paintings.

Olga is an alumni of Newlyn Art School and completed her Masters degree in Art Education at Goldsmith University. She has exhibited in both the UK and in Canada.

​Overview

On arrival, guests will be welcomed with a guided walk around the farm, where they will identify and connect with the wonderful site noticing wildlife that live in the habitat. British birds will be explored, as we discuss shape, colour, form and pattern.

Branches and leaves will be collected as references for habitats. Attendees will learn how to observe, record and paint their favourite British bird using watercolour on acid-free paper. Work will be a ready to frame size so that guests may enjoy seeing their beautiful bird study in their own homes.

YOU WILL LEARN: 

• About specific birds around the grounds of Haymans Farm and further afield

• ⁠How to record a drawing from observation 

• Specific watercolour techniques to achieve desired results including dry brush, wet on wet, stumbling and stippling 

• How to mix new colours and hues

WHAT YOU WILL CREATE: 

• A series of drawings inspired by local birds at Haymans Farm 

• ⁠A detailed drawing which will form the basis of your watercolour 

• A ready to frame painting to take home or gift
