About the event
It’s a simple idea: bring people who may never otherwise meet to the same table, share a great meal, and see what happens when we make time to talk, listen and connect.
The Inspiration
The idea comes from Leon Aarts, a Michelin-starred chef, whose love of food began in a large, close-knit family where meals were at the heart of everything. It was during his time volunteering in the infamous ‘Jungle’ camp in Calais, France, that Leon experienced first-hand the extraordinary power of sharing a meal with others.
Breaking Bread has grown out of that experience and a belief that sitting down together can change things. When we share food, stories, and conversation, we can discover what connects us, understand different perspectives, and perhaps see someone or something a little differently.
So, we’re inviting you to take a seat at the table.
Who you will meet
You’ll meet people you may never otherwise have met, enjoy a meal created by Leon and share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. There are no speeches, no agendas and no expectation to have the answers. Oh, and there’s no bar, but refreshments or soft drinks will be provided. Just good food, good conversation and an open table.
The dinner
For this Breaking Bread dinner, produce from the farm will be beautifully prepared by eco-nutritionist Daphne Lambert of the Greencuisine Trust.
Pay it forward
Your place is already paid for.
Breaking Bread works on a simple pay-it-forward principle. You can come and enjoy the experience freely. At the end of the meal, we’ll invite you to make a voluntary contribution. Whatever you choose to give will help make the next Breaking Bread dinner possible for someone else. In this way, one table creates the next, and the next brings more people together who might never otherwise have crossed paths.
