Seed Saving Course

Every year, we grow seed crops for a number of small independent seed companies as well as saving seeds for our own needs, in our organic, biodynamic certified market garden. Saving your own seeds means anticipating your needs for next year (saving on seed orders!) and gradually adapting theses plants to your very own climate and conditions so they fare better year on year.

On this course you will be introduced to all the various techniques we use in saving seeds – we’ll cover basic plant sex, isolation & crossing, selection, the importance of open-pollinators, collection techniques, the difference between wet and dry winnowing, how to carry out germination test, and everything else in-between! The importance of seed storage will also be covered.

All participants will leave with hands-on experience of seed saving and some seeds to take home for next season. There will also be plenty of time to answer any specific questions you may have for your own gardens and growing spaces.

Hot drinks and farm-made cake will be provided!

PLEASE NOTE: This course will mostly be under cover from the elements, however it may be cold, so please bring warm clothing and suitable footwear.
